The Whisky Type is a whisky writing and storytelling platform founded by Carolyn Wynnack, a writer, photographer, whisky professional, and passionate student of the spirit.
Based in Lexington, Kentucky, Carolyn focuses on whisky education, experiences, and community, exploring whisky not just as a drink, but as culture. She believes good whisky deserves good words, and that thoughtful storytelling can make the category more inclusive, curious, and connected.
Carolyn’s journey into whisky began in the mid-2010s at a gathering with friends, where the only choices were craft beer or a dusty green bottle of Laphroaig 10. She chose the Laphroaig. One sip of smoke, peat, and brine later, she was hooked.
What started as a moment of curiosity quickly became a lifelong pursuit.
Since then, Carolyn has built a career marrying whisky expertise and editorial storytelling. In 2022, she completed the Diploma in Single Malt Whisky through the Edinburgh Whisky Academy, indulging in two days of immersive education at historic Arniston House outside Edinburgh, Scotland. Her education has continued both formally and in the field through certifications, distillery work, intentional experiences, and travel.
